Who the Heck am I?

Who the Heck am I?

I am Graeme, owner and founder of a small wine group based in Edinburgh. I own a wine bar, Good Brothers Wine Cellars, and 2 wine shops called Winekraft.

My journey in wine started 23 years ago when I took up an apprenticeship with Louis Jadot in Burgundy as a winemaker, and from that day I was hooked. I just loved how something so beautiful was able to be crafted from something so simple, the humble grape.

Between then and now, I have worked for a number of amazing restaurants around the world and 14 years working between Bibendum Wines and Enotria, 2 of the most important importers of wine in the UK. But, at the start of Covid in 2020, I made the decision to move full time into the business I had started in 2016 and have not looked back.

The problem with Wine

The problem with Wine

A slightly alarming heading as I have no problem wine wine perse, my problem is more that good wine has become almost out of reach of the everyday person.

I have always been an avid supporter of drinking less, but drinking better however, Brexit costs, inflation and constant duty rises means that the average bottle of wine in the UK has risen from £5.98 to £6.76 yet the amount actually going to the wine maker has fallen from £0.87 to £0.66.

So where does the money go!?!

Well, it goes to the Government and it goes to the vast array of distributors needed to bring the wine to you, each taking their share of the profit and I want to change that, I want to bring you great wine at the best possible price by removing as many touch points as I can, ultimately reducing the price to the consumer.

What am I doing about it?

What am I doing about it?

To cut a very long and boring story short, I am cutting out the middle man where I can, to reduce the amount of margin put on each bottle, and by charging a flat subscription fee, I am able to sell each bottle nearly at cost price. What that means is you will see between 24% and 29% discount on your case of wine.

So if you normally spend £100 a month on wine, the chances are you will only pay £75 and the wine you drink will be better.

Ultimately, you get to drink better wine for less!
